North Shore with Seyon, Huen and Jaya

We started at the Hanalei Farmer’s market, the children played tag and it looks like they also practiced levitating…

We saw Nene, roosters and other wildlife

Next we went to the dry cave

and then to the beach, at Haena Beach park

After lunch we visited the wet cave, and found this rock nearby

Later we went to Kee beachand found (modern?) petroglyphs there

and a seal, beautiful views, rainbows, sandballs, shells…

On Cherries, Litchies or On Growing Up in Different Places

I must admit I get excited about fresh cherries. Whenever we are near an orchard or farmers market at the right time and place we need to get some. Lots actually, not just some. Last time we we were in California I probably ate 5 pounds. I do remember the beautiful Austrian cherry trees I climbed in my childhood, and I remember the sweetness…
Leilani however could care less. She will eat them, unless they have tiny brown spots or are too soft. But she doesn’t get excited. Not at all.
Now litchies or longans or rambutans, that’s different, that gets her excited (and begging) for the most expensive items on our farmers markets.

Autograph Tree Leaves

There is a special tropical tree that is called the Autograph Tree (Clusia rosea). Wikipedia says: “The upper leaf tissue registers ‘writing’ giving it the common name autograph tree. ”

When Leilani and I went to Ace they were trimming their trees. Leilani picked a shopping bag full of leaves (off the branches on the ground) and we shared them with friends.
