Leilani’s Art: Austria 2012

As always, uncropped and un-edited…

Leilani commented on the blurriness: “Schau einmal, da war ich zu betrunken, hick, hick” (sorry, does not translate well)

Styrassic Park

There are about 80 dinosaurs roaming East Styria:

Alex has a new horse. Her name is Nice, and she is a Haflinger.

Vienna

To make sure Leilani knew that there was culture outside of Paris we went to Vienna. In the morning we visited the Spanish Riding School, the “Spanische Hofreitschule” with the very famous Lipizaner-horses.

It is housed in a beautiful building. (Weather courtesy of Photoshop)

No Oma, that way…

My mom asked him if we could take his photo with Leilani. He answered that it was the thousandth photo today and he was very bored. In the meantime, Leilani sneaked up…

Well, I have photoshopped a lot more than 1000 photos, and I am bored too. It would take an hour to do that one right… it was forbidden to photograph in the Spanische Hofreitschule, so I took very few photos in bad light, none of them worth posting by itself.

Afterwards we started walking towards the Stefansdom the St. Stephen’s Cathedral… at least in the general direction. We found many beautiful buildings along the way, but I don’t really remember what most of them are.

Zoom… zoom… here the sky looks almost real?

Same roof. Leilani commented on the statue on the left (after Andy pointed it out): Oops. Ouweee, crash, boom, bang, Ouweee…

Notice how these ladies are so much better dressed than their sisters in the Louvre

We had a really good lunch and (at least I) ate too much.

It was cold and grey and the photos did not turn out great. Yes I know the ones with the photoshopped sky don’t look that much better.

We walked towards the opera house

And photographed it from every angle. At least Sonja did…

This is the Karlskirche

We got lost for a while, but then asked for directions and got to the Kärntner Straße and Leilani got to blow big bubbles

The former Hotel Meissl & Schadn, with a mosaic made by Eduard Veith

More pretty houses

The Pestsaeule (plague column) is located on Graben.

We found and visited the Stefansdom. I took so many photos that I decided to make it it’s own post. After the Stefansdom it was late already, and Leilani was tired. We took turns schlepping her.

Freyung

We drove all the way to Schönbrunn Palace and visited the Wagenburg, a museum of carriages and vehicles.

Proof that I was along… (actually, there are more Vienna photos of me coming in another post, as Leilani got a hold of my camera…)

Vienna – Stefansdom

One of the main attractions in Vienna is the Stefansdom the St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

I really like this photo, although it’s just a snapshot… That yellow M, the international symbol of bad food and clean restrooms is very present, not only in Vienna, but all over Austria.

They were renovating large portions of the cathedral

I tried 3 times to take this photo (without Leilani)

It’s so sweet to watch Leilani light a candle. I asked why, and she said she lit it for Jojo.

The gothic pulpit is carved from stone. It is mind boggling how this can be done.

Whenever I don’t like my camera anymore I look at some of it’s abilities. Zoom into the previous photo.

And more zoom.
