Loosing my religion… at the Kapaa Library
On June 15th we went to the Kamehemeha Parade. The queens and princesses of the different islands:
And the Pa’u queen
Kauai is purple with Mokihana leis:
Niihau white, Kahelelani or momi (shell) leis
Oahu golden-yellow with Ilima leis
I think that’s Molokai, which is green and should have Kukui leis
Well that’s Leilani who wears her sunglasses however she wants. Deal with it :-)
And Maui in pink with the rose (lokelani) lei
Lanai orange with Kauna`oa or dodder leis
And while I think the hula girls are adorable I have a lot of trouble with the amount of Makeup they are wearing…
Probably Kahoolawe – should be grey with Hinahina or Native Heliotrope flower leis
Big Island – red with Ohia Lehua leis
King Kamehameha and his staff
Hula for the king
Queens and minions waiting to give presents and tributes
Leilani and Julia (in the way of the queens and minions)
Best hairstyle award goes to Maui
But I also like Kahoolawe a lot
Angel dancing in her halau
The king leaving
Horses were parked on their trailers in the heat while the rest of us celebrated
And Mikey, and that photo of course has nothing to do with the post, but shows our freshly done front yard and that Mikey is still cute
Andy and I hiked on the Kuilau trail
Actually we wanted to do the powerline trail, but had to turn around
Later we had a potluck
I thought I should post something recent for a change… all from this and last week
Leilani and I invented a game. You roll 2 dice, multiply and create art in the process. Then you proceed to build cities, colonies and connections…
Leilani drew an Apapane – and I think she did it really well
Quote “I am an animal, caught in a poacher’s cage, help…”
It’s raining, it’s pouring
More multiplying
True colors, no filters, photoshop used only to crop and remove wires.
Some schoolwork:
Spelling test
An essay. Mikey had just pooped on Leilani’s puzzle pieces. Handwriting indicates that she is not that happy…
But when she’s happy the handwriting is pretty nice.
And just because it happened today at school: Talking about work and employment in social studies I wanted Leilani to find the word “unemployed”. Sonja: “Many people have no work, we call them ….?” Leilani “Lazy!”
She also misidentified a Gameboy as a Nintendo which I thought was pretty funny as kids always accuse their parents of not being able to tell the difference. She argued for a while, and only stopped then when I called upon the all-knowledgeable Google to be the referee…
We talked about rich and poor and amounts of money they have and spend. She brought up debt. Out of nowhere she started to sing.”Paying interest is awful, paying interest is awful…” (It happened in German, and originally she sang “Zinsen zahlen ist schrecklich, Zinsen zahlen ist schrecklich…”
