We came home from our California trip to a sad situation. Dead cat, dead car, dead orchids. And unbearable noise levels. So we decided to go camping, Andy still had to work but often joins us at night and on the weekend, but Leilani’s school happens outdoors a lot now, and at the library…
We started in Anahola
And soon moved to Lydgate. Look closely to see a vegetarian’s BBQ chicken.
Kanoe and her mom visited
I thought I had found a pretty shell, but we found it had an hermit crab living in it. Too shy to come out for the photo though.
We thought the sunrises could not be prettier than from our lanai (porch). We were wrong.
Leilani wrote her first essay. Google and I translated it (Google did a surprisingly bad first pass, but then google does pretty much everything surprisingly bad these days…):
The Daisy
There once was a common daisy. It sprouted in a small flower garden, as it looked around it thought, oh how ugly I am, here among all the tulips, lilies and snowdrops and others. She thought the whole day about her misfortune that she was just a daisy. Then a tulip said, look at this the ugly flower. All laughed except the snowdrops. Her sunny yellow center is cute. Then a swallow flew along and when she saw the daisy she flew down and twittered what a cute flower. Her center is like the sun. The red tulips got even redder than before. The daisy smiled. A girl came with a knife and cut a few tulips. The next day the swallow sang again but this time a dirge. She had been caught and sat in a bird cage. Then two boys came, they had a knife and came straight for the daisy.
Here is a nice piece of grass for the bird said one. Then they cut a square around the daisy. Throw out the flower said one boy, no leave it in said the other boy. So the Daisy came to the bird, oh, how wonderful you smell the bird said. They remained in the cage for a day, then the girl who lived in the house saw how withered the flower looked and how sad the bird was. So she planted the flower and let the birds free, and if it has not wilted yet, it is still blooming today.
