Maui 2015 3 – Waihe’e Hike

We actually found this flower on our hike today. Happy Easter everyone!

Yesterday, Oliver played baseball with the girls on the golf course.

Today, we went hiking on the Waihe’e ridge trail in West Maui:

It started out steep in a pasture, but soon we were in the forest and there were lots of nice plants.

Then we reached the top of the ridge and had some nice views back toward Kahului and central Maui. The trade winds were blowing, so clouds hung above us.

A little further, there were some nice views up into the valley, but the peaks were in the clouds:

But we hiked on uphill:

Eventually, we were hiking in the clouds, and the trail was getting muddy, so we stopped for the last pictures before turning around:

People told us the hike continued up the ridge, and sometimes you could see it through the clouds, but those who did continue on up probably didn’t get any views today. On the way down, we saw the cloud moisture collecting on some native ‘ohia lehua blossoms:

We had the same nice views on the hike back down:

Back at home, Sonja helped the girls paint Easter eggs and decorate an Easter tree branch with them (an Austrian tradition).

At night, the girls started playing dress-up instead of getting ready for bed:
