Pueo

Andy found a Pueo (Hawaiian native owl) that had been hit by a car and had a concussion. We had it for a night and half a day, and then the shearwater people (who usually deal with a critically endangered bird who is hunted by owls) nursed it back to health. It was released Saturday, and flew off, after sitting on a branch for a while.

The owl was not afraid of us, and as long as there was no sudden movement, bright light or loud noise we were able to reach into the cage, it even seemed to enjoy being petted, closing it’s eyes and stopping the concussion-induced head-nodding and relaxing.

Andy noticed it’s feet and claws…

Before being loaded into the car it looked alert, the head shaking stopped and it opened it’s eyes, I think it was a bit afraid, dogs on the other side of the fence, people running around…
