Austin 2

Andy and Sonja’s hike at Walnut Creek

Austin: Wild Basin Hike

Every time we go to Austin, we find somewhere new to hike. This time it’s the Wild Basin Preserve, and as a bonus, it also has a pretty little waterfall. Another bonus was that it was a beautiful sunny day.

Leilani wore Sonja’s big sunglasses, and we joked that it made her look like some Hollywood starlet:

There were even a few lonely wildflowers despite the recent cold weather:

The falls were pretty but hard to see or get a good photo:

The low winter light mad pretty patterns in the stream and ripples:

A little bit further, we found a nice rock to sit on with the only good view of the waterfall:

Austin: Lake Austin View

On the drive back from Wild Basin, there is a viewpoint by the side of the road. The water is actually a reservoir called Lake Austin, with a big bridge for the Capital of Texas highway.

Sonja and Leilani found a trail along a balcony above the road. Eventually, after some climbing on the other side, it reached the top.

Leilani almost always stops to pet the dogs after asking their owners if it’s OK to do it. Here she could not resist either. The lady explained the dog was too old to hike up by himself, so she put him in a backpack:

Seattle

We had a 24 hour stop in Seattle on our way home from Austin.
