Minimundus

We drove all the way to Klagenfurt to visit Matthias, Tanja, Juri and Jakob. We had an ostrich scrambled egg (feeds 7) and then visited Minimundus
The biggest sensation for the kids, not pictured here was a “4D” cinema, showing (showing is not the right word…) a multi-sensational ride on a Chinese wall themed rollercoaster.

Leilani waited patiently for a ride in the simulator. Matthias thought the recording was a motorcycle ride because it went into the curves too fast, but I really could not tell the difference. However, since Leilani did not crash, not even when she put on the seatbelt at 100 mph I concluded there was an autopilot installed.

Graz, again

We went to the Joanneum museum of Natural History

In one exhibition – Interdependencies – Leilani found an old typewriter. (It did not have a spellchecker)

Interdependencies was one of my favorite parts, 20 exhibits showed examples from human emotions to linked pendulums, generators and motors, quantum-simulations,acoustic feedback, camera-loops…
The snakes and reptiles were great too.

These photos are from the reptile and amphibian exhibit on Wednesday:

Other things we looked at were Globetrotters – “Neobiota” – Introduced and sometimes harmful or invasive species, minerals, the geological exhibition, botanical illustrations. We were there Wednesday and Friday, for a total of 8 hours. Leilani wants to go back as we are not done yet. I think when she sees the Smithsonian she’ll try to get a job there, or move in…
Right outside the museum they were preparing for a spring festival. Palette furniture is fashionable everywhere it seems.

More stuff they had outside the museum. The Styrian Panther coat of arms from the old city wall (destroyed)

Leilani needed a rest as she had just ran up an escalator. The kind that went downstairs though. I had guessed correctly that the (Austrian) security guard who watched would not really mind, he only commented that he’d be really tired if he would try that, but at Leilani’s age it was still possible.

Gleisdorf 2016, second week

In Venice (post coming soon) Leilani got a feather quill pen
