Last week we had two dear visitors – Nicole from Swizerland for the whole week, and Ruwan for one day. Leilani was a little upset at the disturbance and cried more than usual, but we liked having company. Unfortunately I did not get to the photos, just one from a hike with Ruwan (he is hiding from the camera behind the rock to the left….)

Letzte Woche hatten wir lieben Besuch, Nicole aus der Schweiz war die ganze Woche da, und Ruwan einen Tag. Leilani war etwas verstoert ueber die Veraenderungen, und hat mehr als ueblich geweint, aber wir haben uns ueber den Besuch gefreut. Leider bin ich noch nicht dazugekommen Fotos zu suchen, hier nur schnell eines von der Wanderung mit Ruwan (er versteckt sich vor der Kamera hinter dem linken Felsen…)

Leilani had a few really bad diaper days lately. She hates them, and sometimes it takes both of us parents to put them on, sometimes I give in, and let her go diaper free in the yard, or just leave her naked on the diapertable for a long time.

So far we were lucky every time, and she has not peed on me. We tried cloth once more, but it doesn’t make a big difference to put them on, and once they are wet she dislikes them even more.

Poopwise she is doing great, since February no poop in a diaper and not a single “accident” while naked either. Once I wanted to know, and tried to finish what I was doing… but after 3 minutes I felt really sorry for her, and took her to the potty… When she is naked in the yard though I get 15 seconds or so to get her in position… OK enough now.

Seit Mitte Februar hat sie nicht mehr in die Windel gegackt, und seit 20. Februar auch keine “Unfaelle” am Wickeltisch mehr gehabt. Einmal wollte ich es wirklich wissen, und habe versucht etwas fertigzumachen, aber nach 3 Minuten hat sie mir so leid getan das ich sie dann doch gleich auf den Topf gesetzt habe. Wenn sie nackt im Garten ist hab ich allerdings nicht soviel Bedenkzeit sie in Position zu bringen, ich schaetze ca 15 Sekunden

After the first video of Leilani talking, she quickly stopped sticking out her tongue when vocalizing. She still makes mostly the same ahhs and ohhs, sometimes with a few other multisyllables. But she does it several times a day, sometimes when interacting with us, sometimes on her own.

In this video, she is playing in her new “gym” that we had to buy for her after she liked Ian’s so much. I’m a bit ambivalent about surrounding her with bright, colorful and noisy playthings, sometimes she seems over-stimulated. But maybe that’s what she needs to develop motor skills, because she definitely interacts with it more than anything else before. She’s absorbing new sensations and learning new motions all the time, so she probably gets frustrated at not being able to do everything she wants. Imagine if every motion was new and you had to practice and learn it.

Leilani has been squirming and trying to move about more and more. First, she started arching her back and tilting her head back. Then she figured out how to push with the top leg which usually rolls her over on her side. After that, she found out that bringing her head and leg back forward will roll her body and flip her onto her stomach. Finally she realized she needed to get the bottom arm out of the way and she would then be in a position to start crawling. Sometimes we’d help her out with one of these steps, but most of the actions seemed innate.

Earlier this week, she got all the motions in smooth sequence and flipped over in a few seconds by herself. A few days later she did it again so I grabbed the video camera and asked her to do it again, which she did! This is the original live audio for this video.

Yesterday Leilani got to visit Ian, who is 4 days older than she is. Mom had a nice time walking and chatting with Karla and Klaus, Ian’s parents, and Leilani met someone her own age for the first time.

Gestern hat Leilani Ian besucht, er ist 4 Tage aelter als sie. Mama hatte Spass mit Karla und Klaus, Ian’s Eltern spazierenzugehen und zu tratschen.
