Kauai Spring 2010: Princeville

Queensbath

The Laysan Albatross on Kaua’i (moli in Hawaiian) nest on the north shore, on the bluffs from Kilauea to Princeville. We ran into these while walking near the Princeville golf course (the Makai, I believe).

They “nest” in the rough grasses between the trees on the edge of the course, right next to the houses that line the fairways. I say “nest” because it just seems like they sit in the open, and I don’t believe they don’t really make a nest

Kauai Spring 2010: A Day at Anini

Photos fixed and posted by Sonja, comments by Andy.

I can never resist taking a picture of the view out the tent at Anini, with the beach and water right in front of the tent:

We take lots of random pictures of Leilani, sometimes she is very expressive:

I thought these beach almond roots were cool, until I realized that they pretty much document the beach erosion over the last 75 years:

We found a lot of things to rescue that day… in the morning 2 nudibranchs had beached at the super low tide, and later Leilani started throwing all the limu (seeweed) back

Low tide at the sandy point. Hawaii doesn’t have very high or low tides, only a few feet at most, but the sandy point at Anini is very shallow and about 100 feet get uncovered on a regular low tide.

Further east on the beach, past the boat ramp there is a rope swing that Leilani can’t resist:

We made trash art again. Here we collected a pile of interesting trash as the raw material:

Anini does get some rainshowers in the morning and evening, rainbows too:
