Elmo and the Hundi

What’s a Hundi? German for a little dog. But I better start at the beginning.

Andy got me a Roomba for mother’s day. Used, from Craigslist, with a dead battery, wrapped in a brown paper bag and no card attached. See this short video. (I then sent him to buy flowers but forgot to send Leilani along to help him pick out the right ones :-) I don’t want to complain. I really like it, I always wanted one, and I am geeky enough that I am fascinated with it’s navigation algorithms. And out house is a lot cleaner now. Anyway… Leilani was even more fascinated. She loves the Roomba, and she named it “Hundi”. Daily she asks “Can we let the Hundi run around a little?” Took me a while, but I finally asked why she named it Hundi: “It runs around by itself and the cats are scared of him” (followed by an evil laugh) The cats are not really scared, but they prefer not to be in the same room and stay out of it’s way.

And why Elmo? That’s unrelated, I am just too lazy to do 2 separate posts. I read her a story, and after this page

I said: “Boy, she sure talks a lot. Do you know anyone that talks that much?” Leilani thought for a moment and then her face brightened. She answered “Yes, Elmo!”

Horse Parades and Chinatown

Leilani still likes to arrange her horses into parades:

The sick and drugged Andy is watching along with Cindarella and Prince Charming

Mikey is happy that someone is sick and in bed. More time to cuddle (cats can sleep 22 hours per day)

We went to SF by BART

Next to the dolphins in Chinatown we snacked on baby carrots

We went to a lot of shops and got Feng Shui stuff and souvenirs. Leilani was exceptionally good and got little gifts at almost every store (see the red shoes…). Later we has Sushi for lunch. I think Leilani can read the word Sushi, or recognize Sushi restaurants by some other means, but she never gets hungry in front of a Chinese restaurant…

Leilani made 2 new friends. She got photographed a lot, not just by us, but anyone who went by and had a camera – she went back 3 times and probably sat on this bench for a total of 15 minutes. I think she enjoyed the attention that all the tourists gave her a lot…

We finished the day on the playground, Leilani did not want to leave until all of us were really cold…

Mutti’s Visit

My mom was here. We had a great time, and since our main photographer (Andy) was too sick with an ear infection most of the time there are just very few photos. (But this is just the first of 3 posts or so)

The first evening I could get up (I was sick too) we went to treasure island. Andy was still OK… lots of photos. 3 Generations, one of them very squirmy…

Looking at the beautiful city…

Saturday we went to the zoo. Instead of animals I photographed flowers… Poor Andy was sick at home already. (The dates on the photos are off)

Leilani playing in our front yard.

Ella’s Visit 5/09

Ella came and visited Leilani. They made a bed on the living room floor and read books.

Later everyone jumped …

…or got thrown on the trampoline

Leilani in her playhouse

We went over to San Bruno park

The famed Seppelhut – this time on Leilani.

Leilani got a hold of the camera – and took this portrait of Shay (the glass contains water btw)

San Carlos Aviation Museum

End of April Leilani’s school had a field trip to the San Carlos Aviation Museum

In the beginning they were lectured about all the rules…

All the ceilings were full of planes and models, Leilani walked around with her head back like this, I had to hold her and watch where she walked… wondered about her neck too.

All the kids wanted to sit in the cockpit of this plane. Leilani ran there first, but all the big boys got in ahead of her, when she was about to get really impatient one mom kindly held back her boy…

Kathrin and Isabella are her best friends now. One of these days I’ll go off on preschool cliques… boy, that’s a topic I could write a lot about… sadly.
