I want to eat

Leilani actually said that yesterday. Not “want num-num” not “I want some eatin” (which worried me a little, she had used that one for almost a month :-) Her sentences in English are getting better, she seems to have learned quite a few grammer rules, but in German she is still lumping words together.
A week or so ago I tested her ability to keep the languages apart – I let her “read” one of these “First Words” books, that have photos of objects and per photo just one word. I prompted in English “What is this?” “What do you see here?” and she got almost 100% right. When we were through the book we started over, only this time I asked in German, she answered at least 70% correct and in German.

Photos and News 8/19/07

Today Leilani played on the lounge chair.

This photo was taken 30 seconds before she stood up, bounced and fell off (without crying though)

A while ago she drew this and said she was writing.

One of our beautiful sunrises.

Leilani has been asking a lot about Kiko. She has repeatetly gone to the grave with a shovel, but obeyed that there was no digging allowed. Today when she saw me grooming her lavender plant she started picking flowers, when I asked what she wanted she said Kiko bringing. She carried flowers over to the grave 3 times and sang the Heile Heile Segen song again. She doesn’t seem very sad, but she does miss him.

She has also been extremely clingy (as in holding on to my leg while I’m walking, not letting me use the bathroom alone, refusing to go for an evening walk with Andy) and I think it is related to Kiko, Andy thinks she is teething.

We got her a toddler bed and mattress, and mail ordered Nemo sheets. We hope she will move out of our bedroom, but the clingy phase of course delays things.

Okolehao Trail – August 11th

Last weekend we went hiking with Aditi, Adam and Jaya:

Good news!

The hurricane most likely will not hit us! It is down to a category 2, and so far east already that it will cause storms and rain here, but no hurricane.

Andy wrote about it on The Kauai Blog. It’s a little outdated though, yesterday’s news…

It’s raining and storming on the Big Island:

Mikey was home

Mikey came home 1/2 hour ago! He ate 2 cans of catfood, groomed his fur, let himself be petted a little and left again.

Leilani and I had gone out to call him 1/2 an hour earlier, walked all the way around the big field with some catfood and kept calling him, after a recommendation that Andy got from a “catlady”. It worked, he heard us and smelled the food and came home.

I hope very much that he will be home for the big storm too…

I had to change the flyer :-)
