For school work, we still write mostly in German. I am still very unsure about the homeschooling, actually more than before. I think academically Leilani is well on track to start 2nd grade, but I would want to hold her back if she went back to school and make her go to first grade. (It’s complicated.)
Most of my friends are neutral and I am thankful for that, a few give good and worrisome arguments why Leilani should be back in school, and a few think it’s awful that Leilani can’t spell in English, and think if I don’t put her back in school at least I need to hire a tutor…
Keep her at home if you can. She is gaining far more from it than tradition schooling! Envious and curious about doing it myself. She is brilliant!
I live in Eleele… sounds like we have symmetric problems. I taught my 3 year old English phonics — he can read (and write a little) English, but he doesn’t know a second language. We should just swap kids for a year.
Sounds like he’s doing great for his age. Reading isn’t everything, but it really helps them be more independent, and then they can discover the universe of books.
