Jinger

We got a new dog, Jinger. We had found her 2 weeks ago and had her picked up by the Kauai Humane Society (which I now call the inhumane society) because we – naively – assumed they’d find her owner or put her up for adoption. Long story. They kill everything they can get their hands on, often don’t give give out an animal to someone who could give it a loving home. The inspector who picked up the dog seriously argued the case it would be better for the dog to be (potentially) euthanized at the (totally overcrowded) shelter than to go home with me and then possibly be re-homed. I had to go there 3 times and got into 2 big arguments with their executive director until they gave back the dog. We’d like to find her a new home, but are not certain if that’s then called a breach of contract and they’d take the animal and euthanize her (which as they emphasize is not at all the same as killing).
Sadly that way the shelter is loosing all their volunteers and the population does not trust them anymore, they get fewer donations, and can’t afford to keep as many animals as before…

Although Leilani cried too when we realized how many dogs were killed recently, she has less worries and made a nice box…

…and a bracelet…

… and a necklace for her friend…

…and mailed it with a letter to Maui.

Other than that, we still have nice sunrises
