As part of the Narzissenfest Hanni Reichenvater, a local nature specialist and herbalist lead a short hike to learn about local herbs, wild foods and flowers.
First Hanni explained how to use a fern for back ache and foot pain.
Bocksbart
Dachstein Mountain
Frauenschuh, a local orchid related to a Lady’s slipper (and by the same name)
We were wondering why the 2 Haflinger were so clean and well groomed (only one visible in this photo). A few days later they got to pull the chariot of the Narzissen-Königin (queen) and her princesses at the parade.
Hanni explains the use of a plant “Bibernelle” (Pimpinella saxifraga) against the bubonic plague in medieval times. We all got to taste the spicy root.
Leilani drank from every spring or fountain
Leilani really enjoyed learning more about herbs and being a little assistant
But occasionally she just ran off, into the fields, trampling the gras and picking the flowers…
Augsberg and Loser
The first Narzissenwiese, close to town
In German we call these type of plants Polsterpflanzen (pillow plants) – Leilani is testing them…
We bought one of Hanni’s books
Leilani played with Hanni’s grandkids, and was absolutely certain she now had to wear a “Dirndelkleid” (traditional dress) for the rest of the trip. Stay tuned for some scenic pictures.
