Emmi
Kathi came and visited
Yoga
Leilani visited Kathi, or actually her brother’s birthday party
Emmi really likes Leilani. It helps that Leilani doesn’t move suddenly in her sleep anymore.
We visited Helmut
And one of us played the trumpet. Or at least made a lot of sounds on it.
On a few occasions I ran out of batteries of forgot the camera and took photos with my phone:
A few more from the Salzkammergut
Leilani made a frame inspired by the nature around her in Bad Aussee
The Traun, the river that she painted onto the frame.
Grimming
Leilani picked this card to write to her friends
The handwriting on the cars was really bad, but this was a welcome contrast.
We visited Jutta once more
Month: July 2015
Leilani’s class went to Graz, I chaperoned and took lots of pictures.
It was just one day before a crazy guy drove into the pedestrian zone, which really shocked all of us.
Hauptplatz
Before going to the Zeughaus museum the kids had a snack
Statues of famous Styrians near the “Burg”
The Dom (cathedral)
Mausoleum of Ferdinand II
We walked through the inner city, Färberplatz and Glockenspielplatz
Back to the Landhaus
A co-worker of one of the parents Gerhard Walter builds boomerangs and even holds a boomerang world record for the biggest boomerang ever to return.
In the late 80s this was a bar I sometimes went to.
We visited the “Schlossberg”
The world record for the about 260 steps (wasn’t me who counted I would have guessed a lot more) to the Schlossberg is about 2 1/2 minutes.
I kept turning around for photos.
The Uhrturm – Clock Towner
Hauptplatz from above
One of the deepest cisterns of the time, the “TĂĽrkenbrunnen” (Turkish well) is 94m deep (94m through rock) was built mid-16th century.
The guide poured water down, and we were astonished how long it took until it hit the water below
Space-returned music, the “Donauwalzer” sent to and returned from MIR in 1991 inscribed on a disk by a welding robot. Austrian art has no limits :-)
Wishing Well
Mutti’s garden was (and is) really beautiful
Calendula (Ringelblume)
Leilani loves the pool
The adults do too.
Leilani and her friends Carmen and Kathi were preparing a presentation about ancient Rome
We visited the Kulm
This used to be my family’s weekend house, it was heavily wooded but the current owner took the opportunity of storm damage to clearcut. It makes me sad.
We picked up Leilani at her overnight camp at the Wittgruberhof and found these beautiful views of the Weizbergkirche and wildflowers along the way
We celebrated Father’s Day at the Buschenschank Maurer
Leilani wrote a heartfelt good-by (end of elementary school) letter to everybody’s favorite teacher. The children were really sad to loose Ingrid, Leilani felt it earlier as we left Austria a few days before the school year actually ended
